asked:
hey everyone,
when i fill up my lighter it lasts for like a day.. and then it only sparks.
i only smoke once a day and it just runs out really fast.. is there a reason why? i also use the zippo lighter fluid. am i just not filling it up correctly?
does the cotton fluff in the lighter have to be really damp?

That’s really strange because I remember sharing the same problem. Maybe it’s the fluid you’re/ we (were) using. Or maybe you and I weren’t filling it up correctly, who knows? Zippo lighter fluid is cheap, anyway. F*ck, I don’t know. I **** Zippo lighters. The fluid in them doesn’t last but a few days. You’re always having to refill the damn thing or the **** breaks.
I recommend Bics. They’re the way to go, but when there’s wind… my god, do I **** them more than anything.

“Really damp”? Heck, no; it has to be quite wet. You just aren’t adding enough fluid. Try lifting the felt at the base of the lighter guts and filling until you see liquid pooling above the cotton. Use that as an estimate of how much fluid to add in the future.

There are several possibilities, some really strange.
The easiest you can do is check your flint. If your flint gets too small, the lighter starts acting like it’s out of fluid.
The other possibility is that you aren’t putting in enough fluid. Lift the felt, and fill the batting with fluid. If you get too much in, and it starts dripping out of the top, close the Zippo, run it under a little water, wash your hands, set aside the slightly damp towel you just used and keep your hands a little damp, and strike the Zippo. Let the excess fluid burn off. Once it’s done, lay it on the towel overnight and let any excess fluid on the case evaporate (or it’ll burn your skin through your pocket).
If it’s an older Zippo, the insert might be loose in the case just enough to let the lighter fluid evaporate too quickly. In other words, the case is loose. If that’s the case (so to speak), or you just give up on it, send the whole lighter back into Zippo for repair. You’ll get your original case back, snugged up, and a new insert for the inside.
